Prescription Drug Abuse 101
MACPO Regional Training - August 27th, 2010
Overview: Review the three most common categories of abuse of prescription medications in Minnesota; amphetamines, opiates, and anxiolytics. Following the review of demographics for each category, a review of the symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal for each will be discussed, including differential assessments for common mental health and medical issues. Finally, a discussion of over the counter (OTC) medication also commonly abused in Minnesota.
Presenter: Rick Moldenhauer, MS, LADC, ICADC, LPCC is a Treatment Services Consultant at the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, DHS. Rick has 25+ years of direct care experience in a wealth of settings involving chemical dependency treatment. He is on a variety of State and Federal initiatives involving best practices and committees for various purposes. He is an author, frequent speaker, and technical assistant in quality delivery of chemical dependency services.
